Hrgovic Wants Joshua For The IBF Title

Filip Hrgovic wants to face Anthony Joshua in his next fight.

Both boxers are coming off wins in Saudi Arabia. Hrgovic knocked out Mark de Mori in round one, while Joshua stopped Otto Wallin after the Swede’s team threw in the towel after round five. Following Deontay Wilder’s loss to Joseph Parker, Hrgovic and Joshua will likely face each other. The fight could be for the vacant IBF title as the winner of Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk must defend against their mandatory Hrgovic. A rematch clause for Fury vs Usyk will likely prevent that, leaving Hrgovic and Joshua to fight for the full title. Both fighters are with Matchroom Boxing, making it much easier to make the fight. Since Hrgovic is undefeated, with a resume that includes a win over Zhilei Zhang, he has backed himself to beat Joshua.

“A lot of options [are next]. I know I’m the next in the line. Whoever it will be, I believe I will fight for the title. I just want a title shot. I don’t care who it is. I would like to fight Anthony Joshua. He’s one of the biggest names in the sport, and I feel I can beat him,” Hrgovic said

Jared Anderson has been mentioned as an alternative if the fight with Joshua does not happen. Hrgovic was asked about Anderson’s potential after his win over De Mori. Anderson is undefeated, with a 16-0 record with 15 stoppages. His biggest win to date was over the ex-IBF heavyweight world champion Charles Martin. His promoter, Bob Arum, expects Anderson to get a title shot in 2024. But Hrgovic dismissed Anderson as a threat as the two men fired shots at each other.

“Jared Anderson is for breakfast, for this kid it is not too smart to fight with me,” Hrgovic said

“Be careful what you ask for. Be careful what you ask for,” Anderson stated
