Hurd Excited To Show Off In Homecoming Fight

Two days away from their showdown in Fairfax, Virginia, unified super welterweight champion Jarrett Hurd and Julian Williams would address the press on Thursday.

Hurd fighting as a champion in his hometown for the first time, is excited to show his skills this weekend.

“This is the homecoming I always wanted,” Hurd told reporters. “It’s even better than I imagined and I can’t wait to step into the ring.

When asked about the challenger to his WBA and IBF titles, Hurd knows he’s in for a fight on May 11th.

“You can tell a lot about a fighter when you see them in the lead up to a fight,” the champion said on Thursday. “Julian Williams looks confident and he looks ready. It’s going to be a classic on fight night.

“It’s been fun to have this support from the city and my hometown. It’s fueled me. The love and support motivated me in the gym to make sure I go out there and put on a show.”

For Williams, he doesn’t care that he’s walking into enemy territory on Saturday night, he’s focused on bringing those two titles home with him.

“I really don’t think too much about fighting in his hometown. I’ve fought on the road my whole career. I just focus on the fight, not what’s going on outside of the ring,” Williams remarked.

“I just see a man over there. His crowd can’t fight for him. That’s all it’s going to be Saturday night.
