‘I Knew I Could Surprise Everyone’: Sandor Martin Opens Up After Beating Mikey Garcia

Sandor Martin has opened up about his background, future goals in the industry and mindset, days after pulling off an upset win against Mikey Garcia.

“The truth is that I was very confident that I could defeat Mikey Garcia, I trusted my abilities, I knew I had them in me. I knew I could surprise everyone, and especially Mikey,” Martin said.

“We shocked the world with how we defeated Mikey Garcia, being a more complete fighter and showing a very intelligent fight plan.”

This was only the second loss of Garcia’s career.

Martin, 28, was declared the winner by majority decision (95-95, 97-93, 97-93) at Chukchansi Park.

Martin feels like he has much more to offer and can beat boxers that are much more skilled than Garcia.

After locking horns against the boxing veteran at a catchweight, Martin will return to the 140lbs division.

“After this fight, I will return to my division, which is where I feel stronger, comfortable, fast, where I have achieved all my goals. When this opportunity arose to fight Garcia at a catchweight it was an opportunity that we couldn’t refuse…,” the Barcelona native said.
Garcia will try to get his rematch against Martin soon, but the Spaniard doesn’t want to rush into the act for now.

“If we fight again I think I can defeat him easier than the first time, but I want to go back to 140 right now,” Martin added.
