Ian Machado Garry Has Agreed To Fight Covington – “Colby Still Hasn’t Signed The Contract”

It is now expected that Ian Machado Garry will square off with Colby Covington next, at least according to a video the Irishman posted to social media earlier this week.

Garry is coming off an impressive split decision victory over Geoff Neal this past February, and back and forth trash talk with the former interim UFC welterweight champion has been occurring in the recent months. Conversely, Covington fell short in his most bout, facing a unanimous decision loss to current 170-pound king Leon Edwards.

In Garry’s video he briefly explained that he is on board, there is a proposed date, but one major part of the equation is not confirmed.

“I just want to let everyone know, I have agreed to fight Colby Covington,” said Garry, noting the time of his video at 1:10 p.m. ET on Tuesday. “There’s a date in place – Colby still hasn’t signed the contract.”

Last week, prior to the news of Garry agreeing to the fight, former two-division UFC champion Daniel Cormier expressed an opinion on his YouTube channel that has given many fans the opinion that Covington will certainly sign on for the fight.

While there is no timeline in mind at the moment for the unconfirmed matchup between Garry and Covington, the expectation is that it will be announced in the coming weeks, if all parties agree. Assuming Covington chooses to accept, fans can likely expect a social media post with his own announcement, given the outspoken and brash star’s aggressive approach to fight promotion.
