Ian Machado Garry (17-1) has backed Conor McGregor (22-6) to defeat Max Holloway (27-9) at UFC 329 on July 11th at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.
McGregor returns from a five-year layoff to rematch Holloway, having beaten him by unanimous decision at featherweight back in 2013. The fight now takes place at welterweight, a division McGregor has already fought in three times — Holloway will be making his 170lb debut.
“It’s not an easy fight. Max is very good at what he does. He’s obviously been in there against the best guys in the world repeatedly over and over again. But while Conor has been inactive, the hunger will start to thrive in his mind. At 170 pounds, I think this fight is very interesting. Conor is going to have the knockout power,” Garry
Machado Garry — who challenges Islam Makhachev for the welterweight title at UFC 330 on August 15th in Philadelphia — broke down the stylistic gap between the two.
“Max Holloway is more like an Uzi when he fights. The consistency, the significant strike numbers, are out of this world. It’s always in your face, constant movement, touch, touch, go. But he doesn’t have that one-punch power, that shotgun. That’s what Conor has.
“If that left hand lands, it’s game over, and he is laser focused with it. If I’m Conor, and Max hasn’t started to put the pace on him, I’d walk his ass down.
