Idris Elba Makes Kickboxing Debut

British actor Idris Elba is an intimidating force on the screen, and now he is proving his toughness in the real world as well. Elba made his professional kickboxing debut at London’s York Hall over the weekend.

Elba, 44, has been training for the bout for months as part of a documentary series that will air on the Discovery Channel early next year. Idris Elba: Fighter will follow the actor’s preparation for the bout and also explore the roots of Muy Thai.

Footage of Elba’s kickboxing debut was posted online by none other than Madonna, who was there to support her rumored partner Elba.

Elba is famous for big roles in both movies and television. He played the cunning gangster Stringer Bell in the critically acclaimed American TV series The Wire, and has appeared in films such as Thor, Beasts of No Nation and Pacific Rim.

While Elba does not have the youth of a typical first-time fighter, he appears to have applied the discipline he displays in his acting career into his new fighting hobby.
