Ilia Topuria Planned To Headline UFC’s Eventual First Show In Spain

While no solid plans are currently in place for the UFC’s first event in Ilia Topuria’s homeland of Spain, Dana White has revealed that the only thought in his mind on the subject is ‘El Matador’ headlining.

Topuria is expected to defend his UFC lightweight title against interim champion Justin Gaethje in his return to action on June 14th from the South Lawn of the White House for UFC Freedom 250. Assuming Topuria retains his title against Gaethje, the two division UFC champion plans to continue pursuing a fight with fellow double champ Islam Makhachev, who currently holds the title at 170-pounds. In a recent interview, Spain’s UFC champion even revealed that he intends to secure a date for that ‘super fight’ before the end of 2026.

Despite there not being a plan or a timeline for a UFC event in Spain, UFC CEO Dana White confirmed that it will happen eventually, and with Ilia Topuria attached.

“There’s no date set, but we want to go,” White said when asked by ABC journalist Álvaro Colmenero. “If you’re going to Spain, you have to do it with a guy like Ilia. So the answer is yes, we’re going, but there’s no concrete plan yet.”
