‘I’ll Never Forget It’: Lauren Murphy Reacts To KO Loss To Valentina Shevchenko
Valentina Shevchenko knocked out Lauren Murphy in the fourth round of their title fight. The flyweight bout was the co-main event of UFC 266 on Saturday night.
This was Shevchenko’s seventh win on the trot, since losing to Amanda Nunes in a controversial decision win in September 2017.
After losing in a one-sided contest, Murphy took to Instagram to reveal her thoughts. She explained how every tactic she planned to use got outworked by the flyweight champion.
“I couldn’t do shit in there last night,” Murphy wrote. “Sometimes it just be like that. It was an honor to share the cage with a fighter of Valentina’s caliber. I am proud to have earned a spot across from her. I loved the walkout and felt great in the cage. My corners did a great job too. They just kept it simple and positive, like I asked them to.”
“I can’t stand it when corners rush in and scream at a fighter about how they’re losing rounds…,” continued Murphy. “I know when I’m losing rounds and I knew I needed to make something happen. I couldn’t make it happen due to getting hit every time I tried.”

She had won five of her last fights before earning the title shot.
In the pre-fight press conference, Murphy had claimed that she will surprise everyone with a win as Shevchenko “has never fought anyone like her.”
