Is Canelo Alvarez Ready To Face Mairis Briedis Next?

It seems like cruiserweight champion Mairis Briedis watched the super fight between Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant closely.

The Latvian star was quick to call out Canelo on Instagram after the Mexican boxer put away Plant in the 11th round to add the IBF belt to his collection.

“Doesn’t seem like @canelo will land a levelled fight at SMW or LHW. What a machine! Ready to test the waters at CW for a proper challenge?” Breidis wrote.

Canelo has yet to respond to the offer, but he has never turned down the possibility of moving to the 200lbs division.

The undisputed champion has been steamrolling through his opponents for years now and looks unstoppable at the moment. However, a showdown against Breidis will be risky for him since the Latvian star is likely to have the weight advantage over him.

Briedis has held the IBF title since September 2020.

In 2017 when he got his WBC strap, he became the first Latvian boxer to be crowned a world champion.

Briedis has had a special career. The 36-year-old has got 28 wins and a single loss on his decorated resume. Twenty of these victories were knockouts.

It will be interesting to see how his power will match up against Canelo’s quick reflexes if the Mexican star is down for the fight.
