Is Mike Tyson Interested In Fighting Anthony Joshua?
Could Mike Tyson be interested in a showdown with Anthony Joshua?
Tyson is making his way back to the boxing ring on November 28. He’ll be going one-on-one with Roy Jones Jr. in an eight-round exhibition bout. It’ll be Tyson’s first bout since a 2006 exhibition match against Corey Sanders.
Many are wondering just how far the 54-year-old Tyson will go with his return to boxing. “Iron” Mike has made it clear that he wants his efforts to benefit charity rather than line his own pockets. If there’s an opportunity to do that with a current champion such as Joshua, Tyson would like to give it a go.
In a video posted on IFL TV, Tyson said he’d be willing to share the ring with Joshua as long as there’s an opportunity to benefit charity (via BoxingScene.com).
“If doing that means we can have bigger charity exponents, well be it, I’m down to do that too. This is all being done for charity, and if they’re down to do that, I’m with it too. It’s entertainment, it’s just for charity – it’s for a good cause, but we’re giving our best.
“I would love to do that. That would be mind-blowing.”
Joshua is the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO Heavyweight Champion. He’s expected to share the ring with Kubrat Pulev on December 12. Joshua has agreed in principle to a showdown with WBC Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury. There are some hurdles in the way, however. Fury must defeat Deontay Wilder in their planned December 19 trilogy fight. There’s also the fact that Oleksandr Usyk is the mandatory WBO Title contender.
