Is The Hype Behind Edgar Berlanga Worth It?
Edgar Berlanga has been in the spotlight for some time now. The 24-year-old has risen to fame in no time, racking up an 18-0 record in his brief pro career.
Last Saturday night, Berlanga suffered a torn left bicep in the third round, but still picked up his 18th win, second via decision, against Argentinian Marcelo Esteban Coceres at the T-Mobile Arena. The showdown was a prelim undercard fight for Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder III.
The Top Rank’s star won the fight after judges scored it 79-68, 79-69 and 79-69 in his favor. While Berlanga outboxed his opponents, critics claim that he is not as good as the others think.
This was his second consecutive win via decision.
The boxer himself had claimed that he will knockout Coceres to live up to his reputation of a hard hitter, but the fight went the distance on Saturday.
To see it from another perspective, the 24-year-old is climbing his way up to better, more-skilled boxers.
This means that he may not be able to knockout them out with the ease he did at the beginning of his career.
The important thing is to win the contests and he has been acing that so far.
