Is There A Rematch Clause For Vasiliy Lomachenko vs. Teofimo Lopez?

Vasiliy Lomachenko vs. Teofimo Lopez is a big title unification bout but does it have a rematch clauses.

It seems everywhere you turn, there’s a rematch clause for a title fight. It’s drawn the ire of fight fans but many agree that it is paramount for promotions to have them in place. When one promotion has both fighters under one roof, having a rematch clause isn’t exactly a top priority. This could explain why Lomachenko vs. Lopez lacks one.

Lopez made the confirmation during an appearance on the Ak And Barak Show (via Boxing Scene).

“There ain’t no rematch clause, and I know why. But it is what it is.”

As far as what Lopez plans on doing after the fight with Lomachenko, he said he’s taking things one step at a time.

“We’ve gotta wait and see, man. Right now, it’s this fight and then, you know, I’ll plan it out afterwards, to see what we can do. You know? Whatever the future holds, you know, obviously y’all see that I’m not the type of fighter to just talk my stuff and not back it up, you know? And I step up to the plate all the time, you know? If you don’t like me, and I definitely don’t like you, we’re gonna make that fight happen. I’ll throw it out there. You know, I don’t duck or dodge no fighter. How do you expect to be the best if you limit yourself? You know what I mean?”

Lomachenko and Lopez are set to meet on October 17. Lomachenko will put his WBA (Super) and WBO Lightweight Titles on the line, while Lopez’s IBF Lightweight gold will be up for grabs. Lomachenko is coming off a unanimous decision win over Luke Campbell, while Lopez is fresh off a second-round TKO finish over Richard Commey.
