Is There An Opponent In Mind For A Potential Floyd Mayweather RIZIN Fight?

Floyd Mayweather could end up facing a fellow boxer if he is serious about another exhibition bout. Could this end up being a competitive one for the 43-year-old?

Recently, Mayweather (50-0) posted on social media saying he was heading back to Japan to work out a deal with RIZIN. According to AsianBoxing.info following a report from EFight, RIZIN is looking to book Mayweather against Takashi Uchiyama.

“No comment as of yet. When and if I have something to talk about, we’ll let you know. I’m not disputing or refuting any of the reports, I want to be clear on that,” Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe ended up telling Boxing Scene.

“But to be honest, there is nothing to write about [yet], unless it comes from Floyd Mayweather, and that’s what it is. I can’t comment on something that didn’t come from him. When the time is right, he’ll speak on that. If there is an announcement to be made, it will come from Floyd Mayweather. Floyd will let us know, if anything happens. He’s the boss.”

If the fight were to happen, Mayweather could face a former world champion in Uchiyama (24-2-1). “Knockout Dynamite”, age 40, made his professional debut in 2005. Fighting in Japan his entire career, Uchiyama would end up winning the WBA Super-Featherweight Title, defending it eleven times. He ended up losing it to Jezreel Corralesin 2016, ending a run that started in 2010. Uchiyama lost his last fight in December of that year to Corrales in a rematch.

Mayweather, a former five-weight, four-division lineal world champion, last fought professionally in 2017. He beat Conor McGregor via TKO to retire undefeated. “Money” ended up fighting for RIZIN in 2018, beating kickboxing sensation Tenshin Nasukawa at RIZIN 14. Knocking him down three times in a boxing bout, Mayweather would end up winning via TKO after one round. Mayweather previously told Insider that he would be interested in more exhibition bouts if offered more money.

According to Forbes, Mayweather made $9 million for the RIZIN 14 bout. It is expected the result of a potential bout wouldn’t go towards either man’s record, just like the last fight Mayweather was in. An official date for a fight, if it were to happen, has not been announced yet.
