Is There An Update On Alexander Povetkin vs. Dillian Whyte II?

We’re close to knowing more details on the rematch between Alexander Povetkin and Dillian Whyte.

Povetkin and Whyte competed back on August 22. Whyte’s interim WBC Heavyweight Championship was on the line. While Whyte had plans to disrupt a highly-anticipated megafight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, he ended up getting stopped by Povetkin in the fifth round.

Whyte has a rematch clause that he plans on exercising. In a Twitter post, “The Body Snatcher” claimed an announcement will be made on Tuesday, September 15.

“Fight news drops tomorrow. Walking straight back into the fire. I want all the smoke. Let’s go, baby.”

Whyte’s stunning loss to Povetkin was just the second defeat of his pro boxing career. His only other loss had been to Anthony Joshua. That was also a TKO defeat. Whyte had been the mandatory challenger for Fury’s WBC gold.

As for Povetkin, he improved his pro boxing record to 36-2-1. He was coming off a split draw against Michael Hunter back on December 7, 2019. Povetkin’s two career losses have come against Wladimir Klitschko and Joshua. Povetkin has gone 2-1-1 in his last three outings.
