Isaac Cruz vs. Lamont Roach Ends In A Controversial Majority Draw
Isaac Cruz vs. Lamont Roach ended in a controversial majority draw (115-111 Cruz, 113-113, 113-113) in their WBC Interim Junior Welterweight clash.
It marks the second consecutive time (Tank Davis fight) Roach has appeared to win a fight, only to have the judges return a majority draw. Cruz came out aggressively leading to the fight’s first major moment in round 3 when a Cruz left hand stumbled Roach, forcing his glove to touch the canvas for a knockdown. However, Roach quickly adjusted.

After being briefly overwhelmed by Cruz’s relentless pressure and body attacks in round 4, Roach began to employ his boxing skills and counter-punching effectively. Roach’s success grew significantly in the second half of the fight. He listened to his corner, focusing on “catch and shoot” tactics.
In round 7, the referee deducted one point from Cruz for leading with his head. The point deduction was pivotal, as Roach gained confidence and momentum, landing left hook counters that repeatedly caught Cruz off balance. Roach held a clear advantage in punches landed, connecting with 191 punches to Cruz’s 159. Roach also had a 49% accuracy on his power punches and landed 21 more jabs. Both men fought aggressively to the final bell, but it was not enough to see a clear winner. Roach later revealed that he feels he broke his hand in the sixth after blocking a jab from Cruz.
“[In the sixth round], he threw a jab, and I blocked it and it hurt. I said, ‘it’s (broken).’ I still continued to try and throw it, but my hand was really hurting,” Roach saidÂ
