Islam Makhachev Expresses Firm Interest In Bout With Conor McGregor

Following yet another successful defense of his lightweight title, versus Dustin Poirier earlier this month at UFC 302, Islam Makhachev is now expressing a notable amount of interest in taking on “The Notorious” Conor McGregor.

Makhachev finished Poirier in the 5th round of their headlining match in Newark, NJ, on June 1st. Following an extremely hard fought 4 rounds from both competitors, the Dagestani champion was able to find an opportune moment to secure a D’arce choke to earn this submission in the final scheduled round of the evening.

Now, in a recent interview, Makhachev has claimed that he would much rather fight McGregor than Arman Tsarukyan, who he is most likely planned to meet next.

“To be honest, the McGregor fight looks more interesting,” Makhachev said. “In terms of media [attention] and in all respects.”

“But I don’t think he’ll even show up for his next fight. We’ve all seen that video, plus they canceled the press conference.”
