Islam Makhachev Says It’s ‘Embarrassing’ To Have Charles Oliveira As Champion ‘In My Division’
Islam Makhachev has once again taken Charles Oliviera to the cleaners in his recent interview with the UFC Hall of Famer, Daniel Cormier.
Makhachev (22-1) is set to get his first title shot at the lightweight gold against Oliviera this October at UFC 280.
Earlier, Oliviera (33-8-1 NC) made a bold claim that he will beat Makhachev in his home of Abu Dhabi after the fight was officially announced during the UFC Long Island broadcast this past weekend.
Do Bronx sent a warning to Makhachev’s camp citing that he is ready to trade shots on the feet but if the Russian sambo specialist wants to take the fight on the ground, he is prepared for that as well.
While on the other hand, Makhachev isn’t impressed with the Brazilian’s accomplishments inside the octagon as he lamented that Oliveira has been finished seven times during his career which doesn’t present a fair picture of his division.
“Yeah, (he’s making excuses). This is embarrassing because he said Islam has to fight one more time or something like this,” Makhachev said on DC & RC.
“But UFC told him, hey if you do not take this fight, we’re going to give the chance to Michael Chandler. That’s why he took this fight. He’s lost in the UFC seven times. He’s not gonna be upset if he loses one more time. People finished him seven times in the UFC and this guy’s (the) champion in my division. I’m very upset.”
Makhachev might not be a fan of Oliviera’s recent exploits in the promotion, but Do Bronx is enjoying an 11-fight winning streak inside the octagon. He has toppled the likes of Justin Gaethje, Dustin Poirier, Michael Chandler and Tony Ferguson during this run.
It’s all to fight for as the lightweight title is up for grabs.
