Israel Adesanya Has A Theory On Backlash For Post-Fight UFC 253 Antics

Israel Adesanya is sharing his theory on why fans were opposed to his post-fight UFC 253 antics.

On September 26, Adesanya put his UFC Middleweight Championship on the line against Paulo Costa. The title fight headlined UFC 253 inside the Flash Forum on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. Adesanya scored the second-round TKO finish over Costa. After the fight, Adesanya went behind Costa and pretended to “ride” the fallen challenger.

Some fans took exception to Adesanya’s actions. Speaking to MMAFighting.com, “The Last Stylebender” said he thinks he knows the real reason why people were up in arms.

“I couldn’t give a f**k what they think to be honest. I didn’t even think about it. I didn’t even plan it. It was just justified. Like you know when you’re on ‘Call of Duty’ and you smoke someone with a headshot and then you go over them and then press circle, down, up, down, up, kind of teabag them. That’s kind of what I did. What it is, is homophobia. People are just mad ‘why are you doing that, you’re not a man’ cause they feel inadequate. Questioning their own sexuality.”

Adesanya has now made two successful 185-pound title defenses. UFC President Dana White says Jared Cannonier will be next in line if he can defeat Robert Whittaker. Cannonier vs. Whittaker will serve as the co-main event of UFC 254 on October 24.

“The Last Stylebender” improved his perfect pro MMA record to 20-0. Along the way, he has nabbed 15 of those wins by way of knockout. He handed Costa the first loss of his pro MMA career.
