Israel Adesanya Thinks He Will Fight Jan Blachowicz Next
UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya believes he will ultimately fight Jan Blachowicz next.
UFC President Dana White claimed that Adesanya would be next in line for a shot at Blachowicz’s UFC Light Heavyweight gold. Blachowicz won the title back in September by defeating Dominick Reyes via second-round TKO. The title had been vacated after Jon Jones announced he’s moving up to the heavyweight division.
White started having second thoughts after Glover Teixeira’s performance against Thiago Santos. Teixeira scored a third-round submission victory to extend his winning streak to five.
During an interview with MMAFighting.com, Adesanya expressed his belief that he will remain next in line for the 205-pound gold.
“I’m pretty confident it will be my next opponent,” Adesanya said. “Glover had an amazing fight. He did very well. If I’m being objectively honest, rightly so he calls for a title shot cause he feels like he’s up there in age and this is his second shot.
“But I got there first and I feel like I’ve got the right cards in my hand to make this happen. Not saying he’s not going to get a title shot but I was first in line.”
Adesanya has amassed a perfect pro MMA record of 20-0. He’s scored 15 of those wins by way of knockout or TKO. He’s coming off a dominant middleweight title defense over Paulo Costa. “The Last Stylebender” scored the second-round TKO victory.
