Israel Adesanya Thinks Jon Jones Is ‘Scared’ Of His Momentum
Israel Adesanya believes Jon Jones feels threatened by his rise.
Adesanya vs. Jones is a dream matchup that fight fans have been clamoring for. Things have gotten heated between Adesanya and Jones over the past year. Both men have made it personal with Adesanya saying that Jones’ mother, who passed away in 2017, would be disappointed in who “Bones” has become.
During a chat with MMAJunkie.com‘s Mike Bohn, Adesanya dished on why he believes Jones is on edge.
“He likes to say I talk about him but again, I never talk about him unless I’m actually asked about him. Did you just ask me about him? Correct. Who asked me about him when I’m fighting? No one. When he fought (Dominick Reyes), did you see me tweet anything about him? Exactly. I don’t talk about him unless I’m asked about him. But he talks about me all the time because he’s (expletive) jealous. He’s scared. He knows what the (expletive) is happening because he’s been in this position before and he understands the power of momentum. It’s really hard to stop an avalanche once it gets going. With a win like I just had? Oh, boy. He knows what the (expletive) is happening. He knows. That’s why they tried to get me three fights ago, because they know exponentially I’m getting better every fight, after every fight.”
Adesanya is the UFC Middleweight Champion, while Jones recently vacated the light heavyweight gold. “Bones” is planning to move up to the heavyweight division but that hasn’t stopped him from beefing with Adesanya. “The Last Stylebender” is coming off a second-round TKO victory over Paulo Costa. It was Adesanya’s second successful 185-pound title defense.
Jones continues to bulk up for his heavyweight debut. The current champion in that division is Stipe Miocic. He is expected to put his gold on the line against Francis Ngannou in a rematch before Jones gets a title shot.
