‘It Is What It Is’: Cain Velasquez On WWE Stint

UFC legend Cain Velasquez has made quite a transition in his career.

From being involved in bloodied fights in UFC’s stacked heavyweight division to brawling with WWE stars in a ring, Velasquez has been adding different experiences to his resume in his late thirties.

Recently, the two-time former heavyweight champ opened up about being let go by the WWE, in a conversation with MMA journalist Ariel Helwani.

“It is what it is man,” Velasquez said. “That was just me going into it and really just trying to figure out what it was. It was all thrown at me at once, whole new origination.”

“I was there for whatever anybody needed as far as to have me build into whatever they wanted me to build into. They just didn’t use me, I wasn’t called to go in for them to use me.”

The UFC legend signed a contract with WWE in October 2019 where he was immediately catapulted into a championship match with Brock Lesnar at a Crown Jewel pay-per-view event.

In the one-sided contest, Lesnar won in under two minutes. Velasquez went on to wrestle only one more time in the WWE.

He was released in April 2020.
