Ivan Baranchyk-Jose Zepeda Reportedly Added To July Boxing Card On ESPN

A big light-welterweight bout may be making its way to ESPN programming.

According to ESPN, Ivan Baranchyk and Jose Zepeda are set to face off against one another on July 7. The fight may be ending up on a Top Rank card, as Las Vegas appears to be the destination for it.

Baranchyk (20-1) last fought in October, beating Gabriel Bracero for the WBA Inter-Continental Light-Welterweight Title. It was a rebound fight following a loss to Josh Taylor in the World Boxing Super Series welterweight tournament. By losing the semi-final bout, he lost the IBF Light-Welterweight Title.

“Fortune favors the bold,” Split-T Management head David McWater told ESPN. “We’re going to have to take some chances in July and August because I think there’s going to be outrageous ratings for these fights. Let’s get famous.”

Zepeda (31-2, 2NC) is 1-1 in his last three fights with one no-contest. He last fought in September, beating Jose Pedraza via unanimous decision. The 31-year-old is looking to get back into title contention following a loss to WBC Light-Welterweight Champion Jose Ramirez in February 2019.

With July 7 being a Tuesday, Top Rank is looking to secure the market on weekday fights. They recently were allowed back in the state of Nevada following a ruling by the Nevada Athletic Commission.
