Jack Interested in Facing Eleider Alvarez

Eleider Alvarez’s stock in the boxing world rose last month when he pulled off a major upset — scoring a seventh-round knockout of Sergey Kovalev to become the new WBO light heavyweight champion. Kovalev had dominated him in the first half of the bout

Meanwhile, Badou Jack is looking for his next opponent after battling to a draw with WBC Light Heavyweight Champion Adonis Stevenson last May. But he isn’t as surprised as many others when it comes to Alvarez’s upset.

“It is boxing. Anything can happen,” Jack said. “I sparred with Alvarez a couple of times. He is not from what I remember a big puncher but he is a good fighter. He fought a lot of good fighters and waited for a title shot against Stevenson for a long time and didn’t get it. He moved on to Kovalev and knocked him out so all glory to him. I would love to fight him too,”

And Jack adds that with Stevenson scheduled to face his mandatory challenger, Oleksandr Gvozdyk, preventing a possible Stevenson-Jack rematch, he is interested in challenging Alvarez.

“He is hot right now. I want to fight the best,” Jack said.
