Jack vs. Stevenson Set for May 19

Badou Jack, who has previously called out WBC Light Heavyweight Champion Adonis Stevenson, will get his chance at Stevenson and his title, as the two are now scheduled to square off on May 19.

It is unknown where exactly the fight will take place, although it is confirmed it will be somewhere in Quebec, Canada. Montreal and Quebec City are the favorites to host the fight.

“I’ve got a lot of fans there, too,” Jack said. “A lot of people have hit me up. They want me to take his belt. They’re tired of him because he don’t fight the best. I’m the opposite. I fight the best.”

Jack is unbeaten in seven straight fights, winning six and going to a draw James DeGale in a super middleweight title unification bout. Jack won the WBC Super Middleweight Title in 2015, making three successful defenses of the title before moving up to light heavyweight.

Jack was most recently a part of the Mayweather-McGregor card, where he defeated Nathan Cleverly to win the WBA Light Heavyweight Title. But Jack surrendered the title to pursue the fight against Stevenson.

Stevenson, meanwhile, will enter this fight on a 16-fight win streak. He won the WBC Light Heavyweight Title in a bout with Chad Dawson back in 2013. Stevenson has since finished six of eight, and his last three bouts have not gone past the fourth round.

“Just think about Badou Jack’s track record since 2014,” Leonard Ellerbe, CEO for Mayweather Promotions, said. “This will be his sixth world title fight in a row. Look what he has accomplished. He’ll be looking to start off the year, in the middle of May, as the frontrunner for ‘Fighter of the Year.’

“I think going to Canada and beating a guy of the stature of Adonis Stevenson, and in the way I anticipate he’s gonna do it, because again, he’s fighting the best in the division, and watch what he goes in there and does to him. I have a great deal of respect for Adonis and what he’s accomplished. He’s a tremendous fighter, he’s a tremendous puncher and he knocks guys out for a living. This is gonna be an electrifying fight.”
