Jacobs Wants More To Fight Canelo If GGG Backs Out

Even with a mandatory fight being ordered against Sergiy Derevyanchenko for the vacant IBF middleweight title, Daniel Jacobs is expected to be the “break glass” option for Canelo Alvarez if Gennady Golovkin walks away from the negotiating table.

And while it would be a big boost for Jacobs, according to a report from Boxing Scene, the Brooklyn born boxer balked at the offer made by Golden Boy Promotions to face Alvarez in a Pay-Per-View main event.

Jacobs is interested in bypassing his title opportunity against Derevyanchenko, but feels that Alvarez and Golden Boy could offer more than they offered.

The amount is reported to be significantly less than the 42.5% offered to Golovkin for an alleged September 15th rematch in Las Vegas, and Jacobs and his promoter Eddie Hearn may be able to leverage the IBF title opportunity to get a bigger purse for the former WBA middleweight champion.
