Jaime Munguia Beats Jimmy Kelly In Fifth Round
Manchester’s Jimmy “Kilrain” Kelly (26-3, 10 KOs) faced off against Former world champion and undefeated Mexican superstar Jaime Munguia (40-0, 32 KOs) at the Honda Center in Anaheim California on Saturday night.
The scheduled twelve round super middleweight bout started out well for Kelly. He came out firing with some nice jabs in the second. However, as the fight progressed, Munguia began to put on the pressure.
In the fifth round, Munguia hit Kelly with a big hook, knocking him down. He would go on to score two more knock downs on him until referee Thomas Taylor had seen enough and stopped the fight at 2:57.
Munguia last fought at the Honda Center on November 13, defeating Gabriel Rosado by unanimous decision. His most recent bout was on February 19, in his hometown of Tijuana, Mexico, where he stopped D’Mitrius Ballard in the third round.
The 25-year-old was originally supposed to face WBC middleweight title holder Jermall Charlo this month. However, the plans fell through after a disagreement between Golden Boy Promotions and Zanfer Promotions.
Munguia believes the time to face Charlo, IBF/WBA title holder Gennadiy Golovkin or any other top middleweight is now.
“Show some b— and fight me,” said Munguia in a post fight interview.
“I think I’m ready for any challenge.”
