Jaime Munguia, Jimmy Kelly ‘Grateful’ For Opportunity To Fight On Saturday

Jaime Munguia and Jimmy Kelly met on Thursday for the final press conference.

Munguia (39-0, 31 KOs) will face Kelly (26-2, 10 KOs) in a 12-round super middleweight fight on Saturday at Anaheim’s Honda Center.

Unlike a lot of press conferences, there was no bad blood as both boxers gave the other credit.

“Jimmy Kelly is a great fighter, he has all my respect, but I think I will raise my hands in victory on Saturday,” Munguia said.

“I got an opportunity here, and I’m looking forward to it. I’m going up against one of the best, and I’m confident I will get the job done,” Kelly said.

“I also want one of those Rolexes.”

Munguia has overcame everyone in his previous 39 fights. In his last outing, he made slight work of D’Mitrius Ballard in February, recording third-round technical knockout.

Before that, Munguia scored his first decision win in four fights against Gabriel Rosado in November 2021.

For Kelly, he is coming off a majority decision win over Kanat Islam in February. Prior to that, he knocked Harry Matthews out in the third round of a six-round bout.

“It’s going to be an entertaining fight. I’ve been studying Kelly for a while now. He’s the real deal…,” promoter Oscar De La Hoya said.

“Whenever Jamie Munguia fights, it is going to be an action-packed fight. It’s a great fight on paper, and once the bell rings, it will be a war.”
