Jaime Munguia Looks To Fight In April If He Can’t Get Gennady Golovkin

Jaime Munguia is still negotiating a massive world title fight with Gennady Golovkin.

Back in January, Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions confirmed that Munguia is in talks for a showdown with “GGG.” Golovkin’s IBF and IBO Middleweight Championship would be on the line.

Munguia’s co-promoter, Fernando Beltran, told ESPN Knockout that his fighter will seek a bout with someone else in April if he can’t get a title shot against Golovkin.

“Munguia’s with Golovkin is a fight that I like a lot, we are looking for it, but in case nothing is achieved, we will fight in April. We are not going to wait until they say. For ages and moments, it reminds me a bit of when Érik Morales dethroned Daniel Zaragoza to reach stardom. Jaime has everything to be a star and that is why we seek to keep him active and improving, he is the champion of the people for his dedication in the ring and his spectacular style.”

Munguia has amassed a perfect pro boxing record of 36-0 up to this point. He was last seen in action back in October 2020. Munguia scored a TKO victory over Tureano Johnson.

As for Golovkin, he’s coming off a record-setting title defense back in December 2020. “GGG” stopped Kamil Szeremeta via TKO. This was Golovkin’s 21st successful middleweight title defense, breaking Bernard Hopkins’ record.
