Jake Paul Calls Canelo Alvarez An ‘Old Hater’

Jake Paul feels Canelo Alvarez is targeting him for no good reason.

Paul is a YouTube star, who has dabbled into the world of pro boxing. Canelo is an elite 168-pound world champion with 58 professional bouts under his belt. While the difference in boxing experience is clear, that hasn’t stopped Paul from ruffling some feathers.

In this case, however, Paul feels Canelo is the one who has started a beef. Canelo has said that he feels Jake and Logan Paul are “disrespecting” the sport of boxing. Following Canelo’s victory over Avni Yildirim, a couple of Jake Paul fans snuck in wearing shirts with Jake and Ben Askren’s face on them. Canelo told the two to leave the ring in no uncertain terms.

Paul recently took to social media to fire back at the Mexican star (h/t TMZ Sports).

“Canelo, what’s your problem, bro?! Why you hate me so much?! Canelo’s mad. He has this thing against me. Said I’m bad for the sport. I’m disrespecting it, which doesn’t make sense at all. I’m actually just bringing more eyeballs, more awareness to the sport of boxing. But since Canelo, you wanted to start this beef, let’s do it!

“Why not fight Caleb Plant? David Benavidez? BooBoo Andrade? You’re ducking them. You’re ducking them, Canelo! You’re an old hater, that’s what you are.”

Paul is scheduled to collide with former Bellator and ONE Championship titleholder Ben Askren in a boxing match on April 17. As for Canelo, he’ll have another quick turnaround as he’s expected to meet WBO Super-Middleweight Champion Billy Joe Saunders on May 8.
