Jake Paul’s Trainer Thinks Ben Askren Fight Could End In First Round
The trainer of Jake Paul believes his fighter could make short work of Ben Askren.
This Saturday night, April 17, Paul and Askren will share the ring. The two will collide inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA. The boxing match will headline a card promoted by Triller.
Speaking to BoxingScene.com, Paul’s trainer, BJ Flores, said he wouldn’t be surprised if Askren doesn’t escape the opening frame.
“I give Ben a lot of credit for taking this fight. He is either extremely naïve or extremely ignorant. Jake has been sparring and training with top professionals for over 18 months and holds a major advantage over a 37-year-old Askren. Ben is a slow starter and at this age he will be even slower out of the gates. This fight might not get out of the first round.
“I will give him credit though. Ben has been doing a great job promoting the fight but once the first bell rings, people will see a night and day difference between Jake and Ben.”
Paul is a YouTube celebrity who has been looking to build his boxing resume. Following knockout victories over fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib and former NBA star Nate Robinson, Paul targeted MMA fighters. He ultimately settled on Askren, who is a former Bellator and ONE Championship titleholder. While Askren is mostly known for his wrestling, his combat sports experience still far surpasses Paul’s.
