Jake Shields, the former UFC welterweight, has been charged with a misdemeanour of battery following an altercation with Mike Jackson.
According to reports, the altercation occurred at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas in December 2022. Thereafter, the authorities pressed charges against Shields on August 8th, 2023. In the following video, Shields can be seen landing numerous hits on Jackson as the latter was clearly in pain following accusations of racism. In response, Shields’ teammates restrained him in order to prevent things from escalating further. Following the incident, Jackson indicated his desire to press charges.
“All of this is assault. Apparently, the dude is running around saying I punched him or I threw a punch or something. None of that’s true. Here’s why I know it’s true: I didn’t throw a punch at the guy, and all of this is on video,” Jackson
Shields was required to attend a hearing on September 21st, 2023, something which he failed to do as a bench warrant was issued. If Shields is found guilty, he could face six months in prison and a fine of $1,000.
