Jamel Herring Says Beef Between Errol Spence Jr. & Terence Crawford Isn’t Personal
WBO Junior-Lightweight Champion Jamel Herring says there is no personal animosity between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford.
Most would agree that the welterweight fight to make in boxing is Spence vs. Crawford. Spence holds the WBC and IBF gold, while Crawford is the WBO titleholder. Both men are undefeated and are in the pound-for-pound discussion.
Spence and Crawford have exchanged barbs over the fight not happening up to this point. Spence has said he wants a bigger purse split.
Herring, who is in contact with both Spence and Crawford, told Pro Boxing Fans the issues between the top welterweights aren’t personal (via Boxing News 24).
“Even like Errol said, he doesn’t want to move up before cleaning out the division and Bud said he wants to unify the division as well and if they’re saying Errol Spence is the number one Welterweight, that’s what Bud wants, he wants to fight the best out there. It’s a good fight. Yeah, they throw jabs at each other, but it’s nothing personal, I know that. Both of the guys they’re good individuals, they’re just really hungry and competitive and they wanna outdo the other.
“I’ll have my jokes, but then I’ll turn around, I’ll give Bud a call or I’ll reach out to Errol or Errol will reach out to me and vice versa. So, like I said it’s good for the sport, but as a fan, I would definitely love to see that fight and I hope it happens sometime this year.”
Herring is set for a title defense on February 27. He’ll put his WBO gold on the line against Carl Frampton on February 27.
