Jan Blachowicz Not Afraid To Grapple With Israel Adesanya

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jan Blachowicz says fight fans shouldn’t be surprised if he decides to take Israel Adesanya to the mat.

Adesanya is the UFC Middleweight Champion. He’ll be going for “Champ-Champ” status this Saturday night, March 6 at UFC 259. Blachowicz vs. Adesanya will serve as the main event of the card. It’ll be held inside the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada.

During an appearance on BJPenn.com‘s Just Scrap Radio, Blachowicz said that while he likes to showcase his striking abilities, he also wouldn’t hesitate to wrestle Adesanya.

“We do a lot of wrestling so maybe I will take him down. But, I like fighting standup, every fight starts standing and every fight starts standing. If I have a chance to take him down I will do it. I watched the fight in kickboxing where he got knocked out many times. I will use my striking to knock him out. It’s part of my game plan but you will have to wait until to see the fight. He will feel the Legendary Polish Power, I promise you.”

This will be Blachowicz’s first title defense. He captured the UFC Light Heavyweight gold back in September. Blachowicz scored a second-round TKO victory over Dominick Reyes.

On that same card, Adesanya made his first successful UFC Middleweight Title defense. “The Last Stylebender” also scored a second-round TKO finish. Adesanya’s dominant showing came at the expense of Paulo Costa’s previously unbeaten record.
