Jan Blachowicz vs. Glover Teixeira Set For UFC Light Heavyweight Title Fight
Jan Blachowicz’s next UFC Light Heavyweight Title defense is set.
UFC President Dana White confirmed to ESPN that Blachowicz will put his gold on the line against Glover Teixeira. The title bout will take place on September 4. A location has not been determined. Blachowicz vs. Teixeira is expected to take place at UFC 266.
Blachowicz is fresh off a successful title defense against UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya. Blachowicz thwarted Adesanya’s attempt at “Champ-Champ” status by scoring a unanimous decision victory. This was Blachowicz’s first successful title defense.
Teixeira has earned his title opportunity by going on a five-fight winning streak. In that span, he’s beaten Thiago Santos, Anthony Smith, Nikita Krylov, Ion Cutelaba, and Karl Roberson.
Blachowicz captured the light heavyweight gold back in September 2020. He took on Dominick Reyes after Jon Jones vacated the 205-pound championship. Blachowicz ended up scoring the TKO finish.
This won’t be Teixeira’s first crack at UFC gold. Back in 2014, he challenged Jones for the championship. Teixeira ended up losing the bout via unanimous decision. He has gone 10-4 since that fight.
