Jared Cannonier Speaks On UFC 254 Loss To Robert Whittaker

Jared Cannonier has issued a statement on his loss to Robert Whittaker.

Cannonier and Whittaker competed in the co-main event of UFC 254. This was a pivotal middleweight clash with title implications. In the end, Whittaker took the unanimous decision victory. He’s likely due for a middleweight title rematch against champion Israel Adesanya.

In an Instagram post, Cannonier touched on his loss to Whittaker and revealed an injury suffered early in the fight.

“That didn’t go exactly how I wanted but My spirits remain high and I’m happy with how I fought all things considered. The very first kick he threw broke or fractured my left ulna. I couldn’t find my grove and adjust quickly to get the W so I’ll take my L with pride. Robert Whittaker certainly lived up to my expectations before and after the fight. Congrats mate. Enjoy Xmas and the new baby. It was a hell of an experience to be here. Can’t wait to go again.”

The loss to Whittaker snapped Cannonier’s three-fight winning streak. He hadn’t suffered a defeat since May 19, 2018. After coming close to getting in title contention, Cannonier will have to go back to the drawing board.

As for Whittaker, UFC President Dana White appears to be keen on booking him against Adesanya a second time. Back on October 6, 2019, Whittaker was stopped by Adesanya in the second round. “The Reaper” lost the UFC Middleweight Title in the process.
