Jaron Ennis Stops Roiman Villa In The 10th Round
Jaron Ennis comprehensively beat Roiman Villa to stop him in the 10th round to retain his IBF interim welterweight title.
From the first round, Ennis was on the front foot by dictating things with his jab to the body, picking off Villa.
He began to open up through Villa’s defence, as the fast jabs landed to the head. As a result, ‘Boots’ racked up over 40 punches that landed by just the third round.

Villa did provide some resistance with a solid combination in the third, but Ennis’ attacks to the body and head exposed Villa’s defensive frailties.

The latter, though, managed to land a solid jab on Boot’s in the fight, but the American remained unfazed. During the second half of the fight, Ennis stepped on the gas.
A solid counter caught Villa, as he was coming in as the latter somehow survived the round. Boots continued to land at will, as an uppercut connected to the chin.

Villa began to tire, as Boots responded with more right hooks and lefts as the challenger’s corner considered stopping the fight.
While he did carry on, the writing was on the wall. And it came to pass in the tenth. A flurry of combinations caught Villa, as the referee stopped the bout.

“My performance was good. There were a lot of things I could have done better,” Ennis said. “My dad wanted me to do more body shots and angles, stop standing in front.
“But at the end of the day, I appreciate Villa for taking this fight. I appreciate him for coming in and being a warrior. I wasn’t surprised.
“I knew he was a tough kid. I just had to be smart, take my time, keep touching and touching. I knew eventually, I was going to get him.
“We’ve got to wait for Errol Spence and Bud to fight, and y’all know I want the winner of that, so let’s make it happen. It’s a great fight, 50/50 fight, may the best man win. I want the winner. Let’s make it happen. The fans want it, I want it,” Boots
