Jermall Charlo Believes David Benavidez Has Nothing To Offer Him
In an interview with Mike Tyson, Jermall Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs) refused the idea of battling David Benavidez (25-0, 22 KOs) this week.
When asked by the great boxer why, Charlo said that Benavidez doesn’t have anything to offer him.
Considering Benavidez, the Phoenix native, lost the belt recently, many people believe that is one of the reasons why Charlo doesn’t have the intention of fighting him anymore.
However, Charlo meant that he wasn’t intending to have any physical fights unless the opponent is Canelo Alvarez.
It would be a great opportunity for the Lafayette native to come up against Benavidez.
The 25-year-old is easily better than the seven opponents he faced to move up to 160 in the rankings in 2017. Both athletes have a tremendous boxing record as they shared 22 knockout wins each.
Instead of having a go at the No.1 WBC contender, the 31-year-old has Alvarez in his sights. This is one of the matches that he is looking forward to getting in 2023.
If this match becomes official, it could create one of the greatest storylines in WBC history.
For now, Charlo has to focus on defending his WBC middleweight title as he squares up against Maciel Sulecki on June 18.
