Jermall Charlo Calls For Gennady Golovkin Fight

Jermall Charlo is looking for big fights and Gennady Golovkin fits the bill.

Charlo is the WBC Middleweight Champion. He is coming off a successful title defense against Sergiy Derevyanchenko, winning via unanimous decision. Derevyanchenko gave “GGG” perhaps his toughest fight outside of Canelo Alvarez in a losing effort. Some believe that Charlo’s performance against Derevyanchenko was more impressive.

Appearing on The Last Stand Podcast with Brian Custer, Charlo said he’s more than willing to go one-on-one with Golovkin if both sides can come to an agreement (via BoxingScene.com).

“Where the f— is GGG?,” Charlo said. “Why ain’t nobody talking about him? He’s still top tier. If I can’t get Canelo, at least I can get GGG, right? Y’all wanna see me tested. Obviously, Derevyanchenko didn’t prove nothing, cuz y’all told me that fight was gonna get me to Canelo. I beat him the way I beat him – y’all still don’t give me no credit.

“I’ll take that Triple-G fight. I just, you know, if it presents itself, the management team makes the right calls and right decisions, I’ll fight Triple-G.”

Golovkin is the IBF and IBO Middleweight Champion. He’s coming off a record-setting title defense against Kamil Szeremeta. Golovkin scored the seventh-round TKO victory. With the win, Golovkin broke Bernard Hopkins’ record for most successful middleweight title defenses at 21.

Charlo’s next fight hasn’t been decided yet. He has four successful WBC Middleweight Title defenses. He’s held the championship since April 2018. At the time he won the belt, it had interim status before Charlo was promoted.
