WBC Middleweight Champion Jermall Charlo says he’ll be ready to fight Canelo in September.
Canelo is one title away from becoming the undisputed super-middleweight champion. He holds the WBA, WBC, The Ring, and most recently, the WBO gold. While Charlo competes at 160 pounds and Canelo is a 168-pounder, the two have expressed mutual interest in sharing the ring.
Charlo took to his Instagram account to make it clear that he’s willing to fight the Mexican star this fall (via BoxingScene.com).
“We can fight in the fall, I don’t think he has anything on his resume. Whatever makes Canelo happy. We could fight for the [160-pound WBC Franchise championship]. We haven’t seen that in history before … Just get in the ring with Jermall Charlo and have the fans shut up. In September, I’ll be ready then. I’m fighting June 19th, I’ll be ready in September.
“Whatever they want. They’re going to try and put me in a situation where it’s not fair for me, and that’s why I’m prepared to be the most comfortable in the most uncomfortable position, and if that takes me fighting [Montiel], that’s what I’m going to do. I’m here to win, I’m here to take over the world. In boxing, it’s not that hard to make a fight. They make fights every day.”
Charlo has a planned title defense set for June 19. He’ll be putting his WBC gold on the line against Juan Macias Montiel. Charlo is looking for his fifth successful WBC Middleweight Title defense.
All signs point to Canelo going after IBF Super-Middleweight Champion Caleb Plant next.
