Jermall Charlo defends WBC Middleweight title against ‘warrior’ Juan Montiel
Jermall Charlo did not disappoint the fans who binged the Showtime main event on Saturday night, watching him go the distance against Juan Montiel. While Charlo increased his win tally to 32-0, Montiel walked away with heaps of praise from the boxing fraternity for showing his heart. Tito managed to survive beatings for 12 rounds. At times, the Hitman seemed to have smelled blood and unloaded a barrage of punches onto Montiel, but he somehow survived all the punishment.
Judges scored the decision in the champ’s favor 120-108, 119-109, and 118-109. Even Charlo was seemingly impressed with Montiel’s ability to absorb his haymakers. The Hitman remarked: “It took a real warrior to get in the ring with me, and he fought every round as hard as he could. I could tell by the look in his eyes that he was a true warrior from the beginning, and he wanted to fight.”
As for Montiel, he believes the highly-anticipated showdown is what he needed to elevate his skills. Speaking through an interpreter, Montiel said: “I needed a fight of this level and I know with this experience later on down the line I will become a world champion. I had a great preparation. I love it. I have passion and I got what it takes to become a world champion.”
