Jermall Charlo: ‘I Ain’t Never Ducked Canelo’

Jermall Charlo is making it clear that he isn’t afraid of fighting Canelo Alvarez.

Charlo is the WBC Middleweight Champion. Canelo recently captured the WBA (Super), WBC, and The Ring Super-Middleweight Titles. Many feel that Jermall hasn’t been given his due and it could boil down to having a signature victory against a major name. Many would agree that there is no bigger name for Charlo to share the ring with than Canelo.

During a live stream on social media, Charlo blasted old claims from Canelo’s former promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, about ducking the Mexican superstar (h/t Bad Left Hook).

“I ain’t never ducked Canelo. I would never do no sh*t like that. Why would I do some sh*t like that? That’s gonna put my whole family up! Like, that would change my mama’s life! Why would I duck Canelo? Y’all stupid as f*ck!”

Charlo last competed back in September. He successfully defended his WBC gold against Sergiy Derevyanchenko via unanimous decision. It was Charlo’s fourth successful title defense.

As for Canelo, he’s fresh off a dominant unanimous decision victory over Callum Smith. The victory improved his pro boxing record to 54-1-2. If you didn’t include the Regular version of the WBA Super-Middleweight Title, then Canelo became a four-division champion with his victory over Smith.

Canelo’s future plan involves attempting to unify the super-middleweight titles. If Charlo wants a piece of Canelo anytime soon, he’ll likely have to move up to the 168-pound division. Of course, Charlo could take the route of his brother, Jermell, and try to unify titles in his weight class before going after the Mexican star.
