Jermell Charlo and Brian Castano eager for a rematch
Jermell Castano is not avoiding a rematch against Brian Castano and he made this very clear in the press conference held after their first showdown ended in a draw. Jermell, the IBF, WBA, and WBC champ, was of the view that he is ready to share the ring with his Mexican counterpart as soon as possible.
“I think that I, of course, would take a rematch,” Charlo said. “I don’t know when, but I would love to get in there and fight him again,” the 31-year-old told reporters.
Judges ruled their fight 114-113 Castaño, 117-111 Charlo, and 114-114. But most boxing experts claimed that results should have gone in El Boxi’s favor for controlling most rounds. Regardless, Castano feels that Charlo would not mind going toe-to-toe once again.
“I think if Charlo is not afraid for a rematch, and I don’t think he is afraid, I don’t know what his plans are,” the Buenos Aires native said. “If he’s planning to move up to 160, that’s up to him. But like I said before, I need the three belts that he has, so I’m up for a rematch, of course. But I don’t know what, exactly, are his plans.”
The situation has become more interesting with No.1 Australia super welterweight Tim Tszyu in the picture. The Australian star has also called out Castano for a fight after watching him put on a stellar performance against Charlo.
