Jermell Charlo, the undisputed junior middleweight champion, claims that he witnessed nothing in Tim Tszyu’s performance against Tony Harrison that he cannot handle in the event they face off later this summer.
Jermell was part of the Showtime Boxing commentary team for the match between Tszyu and Harrison on March 12th, 2023, in Sydney, Australia.
Tszyu, with a record of 22-0 and 16 KOs, defeated Harrison, a former WBC 154-lb champion with a record of 29-4-1 and 21 KOs, in the ninth round.
Charlo, who has a record of 35-1-1 with 19 knockouts, expressed dissatisfaction with Tszyu’s performance in that particular fight, pointing out that he lacked agility and failed to move laterally.
Charlo stated that his coach would never permit him to fight the way Harrison did in his match against Tszyu, wherein Harrison opted to trade hits instead of using footwork to avoid potentially dangerous exchanges with Tszyu’s powerful punches.
In his comments to Showtime Sports, Charlo said: “He’s strong and comes to fight, but it’s not nothing I haven’t seen before or dealt with. I’ve seen almost every style. I’m one of the most dominant [fighters] in the sport. I don’t think he has anything that he possesses that makes it tough for me that I can’t handle.”
