Jermell Charlo has backed Errol Spence Jr. to beat Terence Crawford.
The undisputed welterweight championship comes to a head on July 29th, 2023, with the winner becoming the first of the four-belt era. In a fight that is seen as ‘50-50,’ Charlo has stuck his neck out to pick Spence.
After all, the undisputed junior-middleweight champion is well aware of what it takes to become the best of the division.
And having also seen Spence close up since they are stablemates under Derrick James, Charlo can only see Spence coming out on top as he felt the ‘Truth’ would stop him in the sixth round.
“He trains too hard to lose. He’s an overachiever. He’s the best in the game right now at 147…I’m definitely okay with a first round knockout because as they say, ‘You don’t get paid for overtime,’ and you’re losing brain cells as the rounds go,” Charlo
Aside from the Spence-Crawford fight, Charlo has his own goals of making history.
He takes on Canelo Alvarez on September 30th, 2023, in a chance to become undisputed in a second weight class at super-middleweight.
Although the Mexican is the heavy favorite, seeing his stablemate in the form of Spence can only be a positive thing moving forward.
And come fight night, both Spence and Charlo will be ready to make history.
