Jermell Charlo Stops Jeison Rosario, Adds WBA And IBF Gold To His Mantle

Jermell Charlo vs. Jeison Rosario has come to a close.

Charlo took on Rosario in a title unification bout to put an end to the Showtime pay-per-view doubleheader. The action took place inside an empty Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Charlo put the WBC Light-Middleweight Title on the line, while Rosario’s WBA (Super) and IBF gold were at stake.

Charlo connected with a left hook that dropped Rosario in the opening frame. The punch bounced off the top of Rosario’s head. Rosario was able to make it back to his feet.

Rosario looked to be the aggressor in the second stanza. He landed a shot to the body. Charlo complained that Rosario was punching below the belt. Charlo swung for the fences but nothing doing. He was looking for that left hook.

In the third round, Rosario was putting the pressure on Charlo. He went to the body and once again Charlo complained of punches going low. Rosario landed a right hand and Charlo tied his opponent up. It was clear that Charlo was trying to lure Rosario for a counter punch.

Charlo seemed to take his foot off the gas in the fifth round. Rosario was the busier fighter and he had his opponent against the ropes. Charlo was only responding by going for power punches. Rosario landed a counter straight jab.

Rosario seemed to be having success in the sixth round but his punches continued to go low. He was given a warning. Near the end of the round, Charlo dropped Rosario with a left hook. Rosario was wobbly going back to his corner.

Charlo went upstairs early in the eighth round and dropped Rosario with a jab to the body. Rosario couldn’t beat the count. Charlo now has three major titles in the Light-Middleweight division.
