Former undisputed junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo (35-2-1) responded to Sebastian Fundora’s win over Keith Thurman by declaring himself the rightful owner of the WBC junior middleweight title.
Charlo, who has not competed since his September 2023 loss to Canelo Alvarez, sat ringside as Fundora stopped Thurman in six rounds to retain his WBC Junior Middleweight Title. Immediately following the stoppage, Charlo was seen in a heated exchange with Fundora’s team, dismissing the 6’6″ champion’s current status. Charlo has now said he only lost his belt after being stripped for facing Canelo at 168, feeling he still has a claim to the title: “I’ll fight Fundora and knock him out. That’s my belt. Nobody took my title. I lost my title because I fought Canelo. Get the money, dummy.”
