Jermell Charlo Unsure If His Brother Will Box Again

Jermell Charlo has doubts about whether his brother, Jermall Charlo, would ever come back to the sport of boxing.

As Jermell gets ready for the biggest fight of his career when he faces Canelo Alvarez on September 30th, 2023, Jermall in contrast, has been a shadow of himself. The WBC middleweight champion has not fought since his 2021 win over Juan Macias Montiel. This has been due to the mental health struggles that the middleweight has been facing.

Although Jermall has been vocal about making a return to the sport, the same enthusiasm has not been held by Jermell. The undisputed junior middleweight champion would know more than most, having trained with his brother. But rather than backing up the words that his brother was saying, Jermell was not convinced that this brother would return.

“Truthfully, I really don’t know [if he will return] because I’m not in his household; I don’t talk to him every day. We kind of get into it. Every other year, we don’t ever seem to see eye to eye on certain things, but I wish my brother the best. I hope he bounces back. He’s got a family to feed, a lot of children to take care of, bills to pay, and a life to live. So, I don’t want it to be when it’s all said and done, everyone in the family coming to me to ask for some bread,” Jermell
