Jesse Rodriguez Vs. Israel Gonzalez Booked As Canelo-Golovkin III Co-Headliner
Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez landed on the undercard of the trilogy clash between Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin on September 17.
Rodriguez (16-0, 11 KOs) will be facing Israel Gonzalez (28-4-1, 11 KOs) in the co-main event of the night.
“… Having the chance to fight on Mexican Independence Day weekend, as the co-main to Canelo-GGG is truly special and I plan on putting on another spectacular performance and continuing to build my legacy,” Rodriguez said.
“Each fight now is more important than the last. It’s not about just winning; it’s how you win.”
Rodriguez last raised his stocks with a stoppage win against Thai star Srisaket Sor Rungvisal in June. He ended the night in eight rounds and recorded a successful first defense of his WBC super flyweight title.
Gonzalez has put together a 3-0-1 record since losing to Roman Gonzalez by unanimous decision back in October 2020. His last three wins have come by unanimous decision.
“I want to thank Matchroom but most I want to thank the champ Jesse Rodriguez for the opportunity,” Gonzalez said.
“I know I’ll take full advantage of this and make my dream come true of becoming a World champion on September 17.”
