Jessica McCaskill Ready To Secure Her Own Destiny Against Cecilia Braekhus

A lot is on the line for Jessica McCaskill this Saturday, August 15. Not only will she be looking to main event Matchroom Boxing’s return to the United States, but she will also look to beat a dominant welterweight star in Cecilia Braekhus. A win could help cement her status in the world of boxing, while also opening the door for future fights.

“We’ll be in the Hall of Fame after winning this, that’s the big prize in the fight,” said McCaskill. “After that, we move on to more history, to bigger and more fights with the top tier names. The ultimate opportunity and reward in the fight is beating Cecilia, getting the belts and being in the history books. Then we’ll move on and things will be bigger and broader and we’re just continuing to look for the levels and the steps in female boxing.”

McCaskill (8-2) made her professional debut in 2015. The WBA and WBC Super-Lightweight Champion has won three in a row since losing to Katie Taylor back in 2017. Her last fight was a majority decision win over Erica Anabella Farias in October.

In her eleventh pro outing, she can dethrone Braekhus. Braekhus is looking for her 26th-straight title defense of the undisputed welterweight titles. A win on her end could tie Joe Louis’ mark. Her last bout was a unanimous decision win over Victoria Bustos back in November.

Both were supposed to fight on April 17 before the coronavirus postponed the fight card. They were meant to co-main the card taking place in the streets of Tulsa, Oklahoma until the main between Julio Cesar Martinez and McWilliams Arroyo was called off. With a win, McCaskill will try and rematch her more recent loss, while also facing other American fighters.

“This is a massive step from even the last fight, we just want to continue to conquer every challenge that comes our way,” McCaskill went on to say. “Winning on August 15 is everything, it opens up more mega fights; the Katie Taylor rematch, Amanda Serrano, Claressa Shields at 145lbs – there’s so many doors that can be opened by beating Cecilia.”

After Terri Harper and Natasha Jonas’ wild affair, McCaskill and Braekhus will look to follow suit. The fight will be airing on DAZN.

“We’re under the Tulsa city lights and the stars in an outdoor event, it’s a spectacular venue and I’m excited to be part of it,” McCaskill stated.
