Jim Miller Makes UFC Return Following His Son-Winning Battle

UFC lightweight Jim Miller (38-19, 1NC), who holds the records for most UFC wins (27) and most UFC fights (46). will make his return to the Octagon at on May 9, facing Jared Gordon (28-0, 1 NC) in Newark — fighting at home after more than a year away from the sport.

Miller’s absence was driven primarily by his 14-year-old son’s cancer diagnosis. His son was found to have Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive childhood cancer, with a tumor located in his sinus and eye socket. He underwent two rounds of chemotherapy and five weeks of daily radiation treatment, and ultimately won his battle against the disease.

Miller, who also dealt with a pelvic injury during the layoff, shifted his entire focus to supporting his son through treatment. With four children at home, he tried to keep life as normal as possible for the rest of the family throughout the process. Training became an outlet during the toughest months and now with his son beating cancer, Miller’s is now ready to get back to fighting.

“We had a really tough six months. I couldn’t be happier with the way things turned out. He’s amazing, he makes me proud every day. For my own sanity, I needed to get in there and train, and I’ve been in the gym for months now, not full-on fight camp, but it is healing to choke somebody sometimes,” Miller
